Some kinds of creative people are the best kind of dangerous. Mild mannered, relentlessly curious and modern, Wayne is a passionate advocate of design as a business weapon. He has led BLACK to numerous industry awards and features in the field’s most prestigious publications including PRINT Annual Design Awards, GRAPHIS, and HOW magazine.
Wayne has years of experience in traditional marketing, but his sweet spot is retail design. Spanning 30 years working with clients like DreamWorks, Northern Brewer, Disney, Target, Starbucks, and Nike, to name a few, he is deeply experienced in designing brilliant total guest experiences including brand identity, product development, information architecture, layout, signing and fixture design, way-finding and packaging.
With a keenly advanced skill for both 2D and 3D design, his acumen for architectural and environmental design is unsurpassed, making him one of the nicest true gurus you’d ever hope to meet.
Wayne and his wife Michelle are Minneapolitans with a joint passion for their beloved dogs, fly-fishing, cool retro glasses, motorcycles, bad TV shows, and their LA-based filmmaker son, Justin.
Renae leads BLACK’s internal operations including all those critically important but behind-the-scenes disciplines that allow the creative gurus to do their thing: finance, legal, administrative and human resources. She partners with Account Services and clients to establish and monitor budgets, develop proposals, contracts, and financial analyses ensuring successful, long-term business partnerships and engagements. Yes, her gig is way more than dotting i’s and crossing t’s.
After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Oregon, Renae began her career with international accounting firm KPMG. That provided the solid financial foundation from which to launch into the private sector. Over the next 30 years Renae developed into a finance rock star specializing in creative service industries like real estate, architecture, design and advertising.
Her strengths are many, but most notable is her wickedly quick ability at analyzing, organizing, monitoring and following a complex project through – from inception to successful completion. Despite her classic accounting background, she is an excellent communicator with a diabolical sense of humor.
Renae and her husband Jim are parents to four children ranging from a high school senior on up to a 29-year-old daughter, who recently added the bonus of a son-in-law to the family. When she’s not working, Renae is a voracious reader, enjoys traveling and participates in a variety of sports. But her most coveted pastime is simply spending time with her close-knit family and friends.
